DANCERS COMPETE, COMMUNITY WINS!
Dancing Grounds (DG) Showdown is a citywide dance competition and fundraising event for DG’s transformative youth programs. New Orleans’ best youth and adult dancers in hip hop, jazz, contemporary, and ballroom genres compete for prizes in front of a panel of celebrity judges and dance experts like Big Freedia and MIchelle Gibson. The Showdown brings a diverse all-ages audience of 700 people together to the Civic Theatre to celebrate New Orleans’ dance culture. There is no dance event like this in the city!
Here’s how it works: dancers submit an audition video: youth dancers submit from May 15-June 30, 2020; adult dancers submit from July 1-31, 2020. A panel of judges review videos and select the top two finalists in each category. Then, we ask the public to vote online for two “wild card” contestants that will face off at the live event. In total, 16 dancers/dance groups will compete live on stage at the Civic Theatre on September 26, 2020.
