Chanice Holmes
Chanice is a working professional native of New Orleans, who is a mother, internationally accredited performer, educator, and friend. Chanice earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, and her Master of Science in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University.
She began her journey with Dancing Grounds six years ago as an in-school dance teacher to elementary to high school youth. She was also the program coordinator for Dance for Social Change. Chanice had a hand in shaping the program curriculum as it stands today, she has served as manager for four years of the program and acquired many skills in curriculum development, artistic directing, project management, and ultimately deep listening to what the youth desire. Chanice believes our youth are changemakers ready to shapeshift their environments and all they need is supportive spaces that allow them to thrive and be heard.
Despite being a working professional, Chanice has continued to maintain her artistry through actively performing. Currently, she dances with Kesha Mckey Dance Company (KM Dance Company). She has studied and performed works by various notable artists and companies such as Urban Bush Women, Ballet Hispanico, Forsythe, Complexions, T. Lang Dance Company, Nicholas Leichter, Jesse Zaritt, and more. Chanice is an internationally acclaimed performer and choreographer who has toured with Solange and Peaches, performed big works with Megan Thee Stallion, and appeared on the Grammys with Jon Batiste. Chanice's values are deeply aligned with those of Dancing Grounds and she is excited to dismantle oppressive structures and uplifting anti-hierarchical methods of leadership through co-leadership.
